The Manufacturing Marketing Reset

Use this when your team has plenty of marketing requests but no shared view of what should come first. Bring a few real examples and work through the questions together.

What you’ll leave withOne practical priority and a focused 30-day plan.Go to the worksheet

1. Start with evidence from the work.

Bring your homepage, one important product or application page, a recent campaign, and two or three customer questions. Invite a marketing owner and someone close to sales or technical conversations.

This is a discussion tool, not a scored assessment. You are looking for a gap you can describe, support with an example, and do something about.

2. Work through ten useful questions.

  1. Who are we trying to reach?

Name a specific type of buyer, application, or account. “Manufacturers” is usually too broad for one campaign.

  2. What are they trying to solve?

Use a question you have actually heard. Separate the customer's problem from the product you want to promote.

  3. Is our value easy to explain?

Can someone outside the team understand who you help, what changes, and why that change matters?

  4. Where is the evidence?

Find a demonstration, application example, customer account, or technical explanation that supports your promise.

  5. Are we answering the questions buyers ask?

Compare your content with the questions sales and support hear. Note one important answer that is hard to find.

  6. Can our experts contribute without starting from scratch?

Look for a workable interview, review, or capture process. Name what makes participation difficult today.

  7. What happens after someone becomes interested?

Follow the path from a useful page to a clear next step. Try it on a phone.

  8. Who follows through?

Check who receives requests, what context they get, and how the team knows a promise was kept.

  9. Do campaigns continue beyond the announcement?

Look at the work before and after your last show or launch. Identify where the conversation stopped.

  10. What would tell us the next move helped?

Choose an observable signal tied to the problem, such as better application inquiries or more completed follow-up conversations.

3. Choose one gap to work on first.

List the gaps you found. For each one, ask how strongly it affects a current business priority, what evidence you have, and whether someone can act on it in the next month.

Pick one. If the evidence is weak, make the first action a conversation or a review of real requests. If ownership is unclear, resolve that before assigning more production.

An example priority

Gap: Product pages end at a generic contact form, and inquiries arrive without application context.

First move: Update one important page with a clear application-review offer and the information needed to respond.

Evidence to watch: Can the receiving specialist give a more relevant first response?

4. Give the next 30 days a manageable shape.

A small plan your team can adapt
WeekFocusWhat to leave with
1Understand the gap.Examples, an owner, and a clear problem statement
2Prepare one improvement.A draft, a handoff, and the people needed to review it
3Put it into use.A working change and a way to capture feedback
4Review what happened.A decision to continue, adjust, or stop

Set the review date now. Thirty days may be enough to learn whether a message, process, or next step is useful. It is not a promise of revenue within that period.

5. Write down what you are choosing.

Complete the worksheet below together. Keep the priority narrow enough that one person can explain the next action and ask for the help they need.

Record what can wait as well. A useful priority protects time for the chosen work instead of simply adding another item to the request list.
